Online play is open, and the bots learned new tricks
Online play is open. Play now takes you into the live match on our game server: everyone on the same arena plays together, and bots fill every empty seat. The badge at the top of the home page shows how many people are playing.
What is new
- Online by default, solo when you want it. Play now is always online. To play on your own, use Solo play vs bots on the home page: it never connects to the server, and you pick how good the bots are. A badge in the corner of the screen always says which one you are in.
- No quiet switch to solo. If the connection drops, the game freezes, says so and reconnects. It never carries on against local bots without telling you.
- Bots that adapt. Bots now come in eight tiers, from Rookie to Godlike, and adaptive bots move towards your level as you win or lose fights against them. They play like people: they need a moment to react, their aim settles onto you instead of snapping, and the best of them set up arc combos. Online, an arena's bots adapt to the people playing there.
- Team orders. Hold V and pick Attack, Defend, Follow me or Free. Your bots answer in the kill feed. A bot carrying the flag always runs it home first.
- The guided rocket. The Eightball's guided rocket holds its lock only while you hold still. Move and the guidance cuts out, and the rocket flies on as an ordinary rocket.
- An honest HUD. Ping and connection status are real measurements now, and made-up readouts are gone.
- Steadier footing. Standing still on the edge of a step no longer slowly slides you off it.
